The Youth Summit Planning Team would like to identify the key issues facing high school students in Howard County.
Please choose the five issues from the list below that you think are of most importance to the youth of Howard County. The top five issues will be addressed at the Youth Summit on April 27th, 2007.Develop ideas for students to voice concerns with teachers.Develop ideas for a system to help students communicate with employers and teachers about other commitments and scheduling.Evaluate the possibility of establishing a Youth Lobby for students to voice concerns year-round.Look at ways to strengthen student government so that SGAs can advocate for students.Develop ideas for “hang out” places within walking distance of high schools.Develop ideas to improve after school transportation options (post-school day for clubs/sports).Develop ideas for designated study space with extended after school hours.Develop ideas for lower prices for Spirit Wear.Develop ideas to improve the quality of food offered at school, including healthier choices and more options.Look at ways to improve class schedules, the system for scheduling and the possibility of creating more time between classes.Look at ways to improve on-line grade reporting/access to teachers on-line at every school.Look at ways to communicate concerns about school facilities. Better upkeep of bathroom facilities etc.Review the ‘Guilty by Association Policy’ as it relates to drinking etc.Develop ideas to improve the understanding/tolerance of different backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles.Develop ideas to discourage binge drinking and educate students on effects.Develop ideas to discourage use of drugs and educate students on effects.Develop ideas to prevent date rape and offer education.
